Television is used to describe the system by which audio and video signals are transmitted so that moving images and sound can be viewed at a distance. Television was first introduced in the 1930's  and gradually become a source of  entertainment and news in millions of  homes worldwide.

Television signals are usually transmitted on the UHF and VHF band , though the exact transmission frequency varies from country to country. The signals cannot be broadcast at a lower frequency, since the bandwidth available is less. In most countries, the video signal is transmitted in the Amplitude Modulation form and the audio signal is Frequency modulated. Initially, the signals were broadcast through land based transmitters.

Today in most urban areas, cable television is available, where the signal is delivered over coaxial or fiber optic signal for a monthly fee.  The broadcast signal can also be delivered through a satellite, using a parabolic dish antenna.
